Banned Books Top Ten Deadline Tomorrow

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Friday, July 15, is the deadline for the Book Sense Banned Books Week Top Ten.

Last year when it debuted, the Banned Books Top Ten List became a featured component of many bookstores' Banned Books Week promotions. This year there is sure to be an even greater consumer interest in Banned Books Week, given the prominent headlines concerning the recent jailing of a New York Times reporter for refusing to reveal the name of a source, the Bush Administration's efforts to expand the USA Patriot Act, and the continuing efforts to ban such titles as King and King. However, to ensure that we can compile a successful list, we need to hear from you.

Please e-mail your nominations of outstanding titles (both for adults and for children) that have been banned or challenged in bookstores and/or libraries to Book Sense Editor-in-Chief Dan Cullen at [email protected]. You can also nominate titles by using the convenient web form at www.bookweb.org/read/6305.

The American Library Association's Web site, www.ala.org, includes a lot of helpful information about banned and challenged books. To access ALA's "Challenged/Banned Books" Web page, click here.

Please participate so that this important contribution to Banned Books Week is as strong a list as possible.
