At the Winter Institute session “ABC Presents: Non-Author Events for Picture Books, Middle Grade, and YA,” booksellers heard about successful, creative events for children that don’t feature a visiting author. 

The deadline for nominations for the 2016 WNBA Pannell Awards has been extended to February 25. Nominations may be submitted by customers, sales reps, store personnel, or anyone who has been impressed with the work of a particular independent bookstore.

At Winter Institute 11, a panel of booksellers discussed strategies for connecting with Title I coordinators in their local schools and making use of federal funding to provide a robust education for underserved students.

ABA member booksellers interested in attending this year’s ABC Children’s Institute, to be held in Orlando, Florida, from June 21–23, can now submit their names via a form on BookWeb for the chance to win a publisher-sponsored scholarship.

Award winners announced at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston include the recipients of the 2016 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction and the youth media awards, including the Newbery and Caldecott medals and the Coretta Scott King Awards, among many others.
