ABA member booksellers and friends of the Children’s Book Council who are planning to attend the Speed Dating Lunch with Children’s Authors or the Tea With Children's Authors and Illustrators on May 13 at BEA should purchase tickets now.

The ABC Children’s Group at ABA is encouraging booksellers at all ABA member stores to submit title recommendations for the 2016 ABC Best Books for Young Readers Catalog.

Award-winning author Kate DiCamillo will present the opening keynote “Owning the Power of Stories, Harnessing the Power of Connection” at the ABC Children’s Institute in June. Here, DiCamillo talks about the influence of books and bookstores throughout her life.

Friday afternoon, May 13, at BEA will offer two opportunities for booksellers to meet children’s book authors and illustrators and to learn about their new projects.

Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock is the author of The Smell of Other People’s Houses, a Winter/Spring Indies Introduce debut for young adults and a Spring Kids’ Indie Next List pick. Marya Johnston of BookBar called the novel “a sensory experience.”

Here are important reminders about the BEA scholarship deadline; Publicists Speed Dating registration; tickets for the ABC/CBC Speed Dating Lunch With Children’s Authors and the Tea With Children’s Authors and Illustrators; and free BEA badges and discounted parking at McCormick Place.

Through March 31, every Children’s Institute bookseller registration received from an ABC Children’s Group member store will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from the event’s keynote speakers. Stores can join the ABC Group now to have their membership retroactively applied to the drawing.

M.G. Leonard is the author of Beetle Boy, a Winter/Spring Indies Introduce debut for middle-grade readers. Erin Barker of Hooray for Books! said Beetle Boy “feels like it was written by a scientifically-minded Roald Dahl.”

A variety of tools are available to help booksellers promote the ninth annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards. Voting continues through April 25, and the winners will be announced during Children’s Book Week, May 2–8.

ABA member booksellers can now register for Publicists Speed Dating at BEA 2016, as well as purchase tickets for the ABC and CBC’s Speed Dating Lunch With Children’s Authors and Tea With Children’s Authors and Illustrators.

The fourth ABC Children’s Institute will kick off in June with a children’s book-themed Backlist Book Swap; 16 new authors have been added to the Author Reception; and March 31 marks the deadline for scholarship applications. 

Heidi Heilig is the author of The Girl From Everywhere, a Winter/Spring Indies Introduce debut for young adults and Spring Kids’ Indie Next List pick. Alyssa Raymond of Boulder Book Store said the novel is “magical, diverse, and intricately plotted.”
