On Friday, September 23, at Colgate Bookstore in Hamilton, New York, Rob Stahl, the store's general manager, will present a shop talk session in a joint venture between the National Association of College Stores (NACS) and the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA).

The Great Lakes Booksellers Association (GLBA) 16th Annual Trade Show will be held Friday, September 30, through Sunday, October 2, in Rosemont, Illinois, at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O"Hare.

The Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) Annual Trade Show will be held Friday, October 7, through Sunday, October 9, in Oakland, California, at the Oakland Convention Center.

The Midwest Booksellers Association (MBA) 25th Annual Trade Show will be held Friday, September 23, through Sunday, September 25, in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium at RiverCentre.

The 2005 Mountains and Plains Booksellers Association (MBPA) Fall Trade Show will be held from Thursday, September 22, through Sunday, September 25, in Denver, Colorado, at the Marriott Denver Tech Center.

The 2005 New England Booksellers Association (NEBA) Fall Trade Show will be held on Friday, September 16, through Sunday, September 18, in Providence, Rhode Island, at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The 2005 Southeast Booksellers Association (SEBA) Fall Trade Show will be held from Thursday, September 15, through Sunday, September 18, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the M.C. Benton, Jr. Convention and Civic Center.

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) Fall Trade Show will be held September 8 - 10 at the Oregon Convention Center and Red Lion Hotel in Portland, Oregon. This year's trade show promises a plethora of educational programs for booksellers, publishers, and authors, as well as Book & Author Breakfasts on Friday and Saturday morning.

Although the regional booksellers associations are all busily preparing for their fall trade shows (a complete schedule is available at news.bookweb.org/read/3635), this week a number of them contacted BTW to report news of other events.

As July 4th celebrations become a memory, it's not too soon to make plans to attend one of the fall 2005 regional booksellers association trade shows. Details and registration information can be found on most regional association websites.

Among BookExpo America's (BEA) many parties and gala festivities were several award ceremonies celebrating some of the best of the best, including the presentation of the 2005 Book Sense Book of the Year Awards, recognizing independent booksellers' handselling favorites, at ABA's Celebration of Bookselling.

The New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA) is sponsoring its first-ever publishers' "Trunk Show" on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Holiday Inn Carrier Circle in East Syracuse, New York. The Trunk Show will feature formal catalog presentations by major publishers, along with display tables from a variety of publishers, wholesalers, and independent rep groups.

To further its member booksellers' community involvement, the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) has created a nonprofit entity for its annual signature event, "Books By the Bay" (BBTB). As a charitable organization, BBTB can promote literacy programs in partnership with bookstores through grants administered by the nonprofit group.

On Wednesday, May 18, the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) hosted a large group of booksellers for a preview of one of the courses in ABA's new education program developed for BookExpo America (BEA) 2005. The meeting was held at the NCIBA offices in The Presidio in San Francisco.
