Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a tool created by Google that allows bookstores to gain valuable insights into their website’s performance, user behavior, and marketing efforts.  Leveraging this data can help you make data-driven decisions, improve your store’s online presence, and enhance overall online customer experience.

All sites are compatible with Google Analytics 4 (previously, sites utilized Universal Analytics).  We encourage you to set up your own Google Analytics account if you don’t already have one.

Website Best Practices

Creating a leading website takes thought and planning, a site is typically considered successful if it is well designed, useful and in e-commerce aspects, lucrative. While different stores each have different website needs, there are some best practices that are global to all sites. In this guide, we explain those best practices and have broken them down into 4 categories:

Wholesaler Fulfillment

Many stores have questions about why an order did or did not go to Ingram (the wholesaler), and why the 'Send to Ingram' button does not appear for certain orders.

Listed below are the conditions for when the ‘Send to Wholesaler’ button will not appear and what conditions will cause an order to not be sent automatically to the wholesaler, when that preference is enabled.

For a full list of eligibility criteria and more information about Ingram Fulfillment, please visit our FAQ.

Wish Lists / Gift Registries

This documentation was modified on 11/19/2018, with Multiple Wishlist and Product Classes

The wish list feature places an ‘Add to Wish List’ button alongside the ‘Add to Cart’ button on product pages, search results pages, and book lists etc. This feature can be used in many different ways. Personal wish lists to keep track of books to read, wish lists to share with family and friends, gift registries, lists for donation book drives and book fairs are some ways this feature can be used.

Shipping Methods

ABA does not recommend specific rates for shipping, and any value indicated below is simply for the purposes of illustration.

SELECT SHIPPING QUOTES

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Shipping Quotes

Reports

There are several reports available to you that you can use to gain insights into sales on your website, who is using your website and other useful information. You can use these reports as they are or you may customize them to suit your needs.

Navigate to: Store > Reports

Reconciliation Report

When you are using the shared ABA Authorize.net account, when the order status is changed to 'Payment Received' state, the credit card used to place the order is charged. The funds collected are placed in a holding account for 15 days or less. When the order status is then changed to 'Completed', the order is marked for reconciliation. Reconciliation happens on or about the 15th and 25th of the month -  the funds are withdrawn, and dispersed to all interested parties.

Product Pricing

You have full control on the pricing for any book on your website (eBook prices are set by Kobo).

4 STORE PRICING TOOL OPTIONS

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Store Pricing > Books

  1. By Model (ISBN) - Individual titles can be marked up or down.

Statuses

Your main page for order review is found by navigating to: Store > Orders. Here you will find a list of all active orders and it is from here that you will process these orders as needed. In this document, we’ll review what each standard order status means, what state that order status belongs to, and how to create custom order statuses of a particular state.

Cancel / Refund

CANCELING ORDERS

If an order is in a ‘Pending’ or ‘Processing’ state, and an item needs to be removed from the order, or the entire order needs to be canceled, this can be done with store administrator access or order admin access.

Navigate to: Store > Orders > View Orders

  • Remove Specific Items

Menus

A website navigation menu is a collection of links grouped together in a horizontal or vertical block. Menus are usually at the top of a website; menus can be added to the footer and side navigational bars as well.

Organized and easy-to-follow navigation for a website is very important for the overall user experience. When planning your menu, it’s important to keep in mind the information your users need to access quickly and frequently, and make those items clearly identifiable and accessible.

Store Features and Preferences

Store Features

Navigate to: Store > Configuration > Account Information & Preferences > Store Features

There are a wide variety of features that can be toggled on or off for your site.  If you see something interesting on another IndieCommerce site, (like an 'Add to Wishlist' button) chances are that it can be found under ‘Store Features’. We definitely recommend browsing this list at your convenience.
