Children’s Book Week Display Contest Winners Announced

On Wednesday, August 16, Every Child a Reader announced the 15 winners of the 2017 Children’s Book Week display contest.

In celebration of the 98th anniversary of Children’s Book Week, independent bookstores, libraries, and schools were invited to participate in this year’s One World, Many Stories display contest for a chance to win a set of children’s and young adult books.

“Every year, it is always so wonderful to see Book Week locations visually express the themes and excitement of Children’s Book Week in their displays,” said Shaina Birkhead, programming and strategic partnerships director for the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader. “This year gave us some of the best ones yet and we are grateful for the time and creativity that teachers, librarians, students, and booksellers put into these displays. Congratulations to all the winners!”

The following winners each donated 28 children’s books — a full set of the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards finalists — to a local charity of their choice:

• Braselton Library, Braselton, Georgia: Donating to Eagle Ranch
• Chapters Bookshop, Galax, Virginia: Donating to Rooftop of Virginia
• Copperfield’s Books, Petaluma, California: Donating to Mentor Me Petaluma
• Creston Middle School, Indianapolis, Indiana: Donating to special needs students at Creston Middle School who assisted in creating the display
• Cub Run Elementary School, Penn Laird, Virginia: Donating to the Cub Run school library
• Hart County Public Library, Hartwell, Georgia: Donating to the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence
• Juneau Public Library, Juneau, Alaska: Donating to the Zach Gordon Youth Center and the AWARE Shelter
• Little Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, Albany, New York: Donating to the Ronald McDonald House and the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York
• Meridian Library District, Meridian, Idaho: Donating to Family Advocates
• Red Balloon Bookshop, St. Paul, Minnesota: Donating to St. Paul City Schools
• River Lights Bookstore, Dubuque, Iowa: Donating to Multicultural Family Center
• Roswell Public Library in Roswell, New Mexico: Donating to CFDY and Assurance Home
• Square Books Jr., Oxford, Mississippi: Donating to Lafayette County Literacy Council
• Treehouse Toys, Portland, Maine: Donating to Camp Sunshine
• Wallkill Public Library, Wallkill, New York: Donating to Orange Regional Medical Center
