Penguin Random House and Above the Treeline are teaming up to offer a free year of Analytics Lite to independent booksellers in the U.S. that are new to Above the Treeline.

Above the Treeline’s Analytics Lite allows booksellers to see their inventory, orders, and sales of comparable titles in Edelweiss, the online publisher catalog service. Stores that are new to Above the Treeline can sign up now for one year of Analytics Lite at no cost, courtesy of Penguin Random House.

Jaci Updike, president of sales for Penguin Random House, said the publisher’s Treeline offer “is a fantastic opportunity for reps and booksellers to collaborate on growing backlist sales at the indies across all categories, and we are excited that so many stores will be participating. It is just one of several such initiatives from us to stimulate and support sales growth.”

“We’re excited to collaborate with PRH on this because we think it’s of real value to the marketplace in terms of saving both time and money,” said John Rubin, CEO of Above the Treeline. “For booksellers, it allows for smarter inventory management and a deeper understanding of sales and customer needs. It also allows publisher sales reps to tailor recommendations to better serve their bookseller clients.”

“Above the Treeline is a valuable tool in the successful and profitable management of an independent bookstore, and, on behalf of our member bookstores, ABA is grateful to Penguin Random House for its support of this innovative program,” said ABA CEO Oren Teicher.

To sign up, booksellers should send an e-mail with the subject line “PRH Free” to [email protected]. The e-mail should include the store’s name, the primary contact and their e-mail address, and the point-of-sale system the store uses.

Analytics Lite is compatible with the following POS systems: Anthology Cloud, Basil, Booklog, BookManager, Bookstore Manager EOI, Celerant Command, IBID, iMerchant, IRT, Ratex, Square One, TrakSystems, UBIC, and Wordstock.

When stores sign up for this promotion, the default setup in Analytics Lite will grant members of the Penguin Random House sales team who work with indies access to limited store sales and inventory data. Publisher sales reps use the information to help curate title recommendations and promotions, and sales information helps publishers plan reprints and advertising. Publishers cannot see into a store’s point-of-sale system. Stores can log into their account at any time to grant access to additional publishers.

In addition to this new offer from Penguin Random House, HarperCollins Publishers offers new bookstores the opportunity to receive a grant toward Above the Treeline subscription fees as part of the publisher’s New Bookstore Development Program (more information about the program is available in ABA’s Book Buyer’s Handbook).
