Consumer voting for the inaugural Quill Awards began on August 15, but there is still time for ABA member booksellers who encourage consumers to vote to participate in a random drawing to win a trip to the red carpet awards ceremony to be held in October in New York City.

To be eligible for the drawing, booksellers must send ABA proof of their promotion of the Quills vote. The promotion may be through an in-store sign or display, a mention or ad in the store's print or electronic newsletter, on the store website, or in another creative way.

Consumers should be directed to vote online at www.QuillsVote.com. The voting period ends September 15. Among the list of finalists are a number of this year's Book Sense Picks.

To enter the drawing for the trip, booksellers should send photos of signs and display, screen shots of websites, or samples of newsletters by September 19, 2005, to Meg Smith at ABA, 200 White Plains Rd, Tarrytown, NY 10591, or via e-mail to [email protected]. (Please put the word Quills in the subject line of the e-mail.)

The winning store will receive two tickets to the October 11 ceremony to be hosted by Brian Williams in New York City, two nights' hotel and round-trip airfare for two. (Air travel is coach service to/from a major airport near the winner's residence. Winner and travel companion must travel on the same itinerary on the same dates. Hotel accommodations to be determined. Other conditions may apply. The drawing is open to all ABA member bookstores.)

To help booksellers promote the Quill Awards, the Quills Literacy Foundation has created signage, which is available as a downloadable PDF. In addition, the Quills is making a limited number of consumer brochures available to stores via the August Book Sense White Box. Booksellers who would like to distribute the brochure, but don't receive them in the White Box, should contact the Quills' Anne Binkeley at [email protected].
