ABA at PNBA and GLIBA Shows Next Week

American Booksellers Association staff will be at the Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes booksellers associations’ fall shows next week to offer educational programming and to meet with booksellers on the trade show floors. Booksellers who stop by the ABA booth can learn about membership specials and enter their names for an extra chance to win a scholarship to the Sixth Annual Winter Institute, to be held January 19 - 21, 2011, in Washington, D.C.


Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA): October 7 - 9, Airport Holiday Inn, Portland, Oregon

ABA staff at the show includes Marketing and Membership Officer Meg Smith and Member Relationship Manager Elizabeth Nichols.

  • Practical Ways to Use IndieCommerce: October 7, 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
    ABA COO Len Vlahos will moderate a discussion, via Skype, on the updated IndieCommerce product, answer questions, and provide a demonstration.

Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association (GLiBA): October 8 - 10, Hyatt Regency, Dearborn, Michigan

ABA staff at the show includes Content Officer Dan Cullen and Member Relationship Manager for IndieCommerce Scott Nafz.

  • It's in the Payroll: October 8, 10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
    The focus of this session is payroll control. From an examination of what is included in the payroll line (total compensation) to providing practical, usable tools for budgeting, scheduling, and controlling payroll, this seminar will provide invaluable tools and information to booksellers, regardless of the size of their store.
  • The Value of IndieCommerce: October 8, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    Nafz will moderate a discussion on the updated IndieCommerce product, answer questions, and provide a demonstration.

BookExpo America will be conducting a brief survey at each show to gather bookseller input on ways to make BEA even better. They're encouraging booksellers to stop by Table 8 – 9 at PNBA and Booth 104 at GLIBA to take part in a brief survey. BEA will give participants $5 for sharing their opinions.
