C.K. Williams Awarded Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize

On Wednesday, April 20, the Chicago-based Poetry Foundation named C.K. Williams this year's winner of the $100,000 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize. The Lilly is just the latest award for Williams, a 68-year-old New Jersey native, whose collections The Singing and Repair have won the 2003 National Book Award and the 2000 Pulitzer Prize, respectively.


Audiobook of the Year Finalists Announced

On April 20, the Audio Publishers Association (APA) announced the three finalists for the Audiobook of the Year: A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning Multi-Voice Recording by Lemony Snicket, narrated by Tim Curry (HarperCollins Publishers); My Life, by President Bill Clinton, narrated by Bill Clinton (Random House); and Ulysses, by James Joyce, narrated by Jim Norton with Marcella Riordan (Naxos AudioBooks Ltd). The winner will be announced at The Audies awards ceremony on June 3, at Tavern on the Green, in New York City.


PEN American Center Holds International Literary Festival

PEN American Center is holding PEN World Voices: The New York Festival of International Literature, a weeklong series of events, from April 16 - 22 in New York City. Over 100 authors are participating, including Wole Soyinka, Margaret Atwood, Bei Dao, Jonathan Franzen, Salman Rushdie, and Lawrence Weschler. Events include "The Power of the Pen: Does Writing Change Anything?" hosted by David Remnick and "Africa and the World: The Writer's Role." For more information, visit www.pen.org.
