Call for ABA Board of Directors Nominations

The American Booksellers Association Nominating Committee, chaired by Cathy Langer of the Tattered Cover Book Store in Denver, Colorado, is searching for qualified candidates to serve on the ABA Board of Directors. Under ABA's bylaws, the terms of three members of the nine-member board expire each year, and at least one of the three candidates cannot have served on the current board. Board members are eligible to be elected for two three-year terms.

Among other qualifications, a candidate for the Board of Directors must be an ABA member who is the owner or employee of an independent bookstore, with a storefront location that is operated according to sound business principles, and must have at least three years of recent experience as an owner or employee of a member company. In addition, it is desirable that candidates have at least two years of experience as an active volunteer in ABA or a regional or other constituency organization, or possess similar experience. Any ABA member may submit nominations -- and the Nominating Committee will hold all nominations in the strictest of confidence.
