Children’s Institute Registration to Open Next Week

Registration for the American Booksellers Association’s second Children’s Institute, hosted by the ABC Children’s Group at ABA, will open next Thursday, January 9. The full-day education program, sponsored by Baker & Taylor, will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014, at the DoubleTree San Antonio Downtown in San Antonio, Texas, and is open to all ABA member booksellers. The schedule will start with an opening reception on Sunday evening, April 6.

The 2014 Children’s Institute will feature the evening Opening Plenary and Reception, a Breakfast Plenary, a Children’s Rep Picks Luncheon, a Closing Author Reception, roundtables, and a diverse array of important educational programming, including sessions on:

• Selling Picture Books in the Wake of Age Compression
• How to Address Censorship in Schools
• Diversity in Children’s Literature
• Child Development & Literacy
• How to Host a Successful Teacher Night
• The Law of Attraction: How to Entice Publicists and Authors

In addition, the ABC Children’s Group is working with the Texas Library Association, which will hold its annual conference in San Antonio immediately following the institute, to find opportunities for collaboration.

The Children’s Institute conference fee will be $79, and the special hotel rate will be $119 per night. A number of publisher-sponsored scholarships to the Children’s Institute will be awarded.
