It may be a new year, but one thing that carried over from last year is Book Sense's Good Morning America book club streak. On Thursday, January 2, the popular morning show's "Read This!" book club made its seventh selection, and once again chose a Book Sense 76 pick.

The ABC morning show book club's latest choice is The Last Girls by Lee Smith (Algonquin), the number one September/October Book Sense 76 pick. In nominating The Last Girls for the Book Sense 76, Julie Jacobson of The Bookstall at Chestnut Court in Winnetka, Illinois, said, "Based on a real-life raft journey down the Mississippi that the author took with her buddies, this novel imagines four of those friends 35 years later as they undertake another journey to spread the ashes of a fifth friend. A delicious read, this is Smith at her prime!"

GMA's "Read This!" segment features one book club recommending a book of its choice to another book club and GMA viewers. This month, the Jazzy Page Turners book club in Knoxville, Tennessee, recommended Smith's novel to the Charlottesville Men's Book Club of Virginia. Both book clubs appeared on the morning show.
