Author Susan Isaacs has chosen The Sleeping Father by Matthew Sharpe (Soft Skull Press) as the next title to be read by the Today Book Club. The announcement was made on NBC's Today Show on Wednesday, February 25.

The "sleeping father" to a teenage son and daughter is Bernard Schwartz, who emerges from a coma with brain damage from a stroke precipitated by his ingestion of two incompatible antidepressant medications. The novel, which follows the children's efforts to rehabilitate their father, is described on the MSNBC Web site, msnbc.msn.com, as a "story [that] addresses the larger crisis in faith and authority in contemporary American life."
