Book Sense is pleased to welcome its newest Publisher Partner, Charlesbridge Publishing of Watertown, Massachusetts.

Founded in 1980 as an educational publisher, Charlesbridge began publishing children's books in 1989 with the release of five nature titles, including the bestselling The Icky Bug Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta and illustrated by Ralph Masiello.

Bloomsbury USA Announces Children's Books List

The Bloomsbury publishing house has garnered its biggest industry headlines for signing J.K. Rowling, whose Harry Potter titles have been published in the U.S. by Scholastic. This week the U.K.-based publisher -- which has a U.S. publishing program distributed by Holtzbrinck -- released its first catalog of 19 children's books to be published in America.

San Francisco Fundraiser for Tattered Cover Draws Big Crowd

A crowd estimated at between 450 and 550 packed A Clean Well-Lighted Place for Books in San Francisco on January 11 to raise funds to help pay the legal fees of Denver's Tattered Cover Book Store, which has challenged a court order requiring it to turn over information about a customer's book purchases. The event raised $10,000 for the bookstore.

Booksellers Busy in Atlanta

This week is a busy one for booksellers in Atlanta, as ABA, the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE), and the regional bookselling associations come together for a number of meetings. The ABA Booksellers Advisory Council met on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Strategic Planning Committee and the Governance Review Committee are scheduled to meet, and that evening a Booksellers Forum is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel.

Mr. Postman, Look and See Is There a Bookstore in Your Ad for Me?

Two major purveyors of the printed word came together recently when the United States Postal Service recruited a bookstore for one of the locations featured in its holiday advertising campaign.

The television commercial was shot at Reading on Walden in Chicago all day December 10, said bookstore owner John Presta. He told BTW, "It went very well. [The ad] is showing all the time now. It's called 'Holiday.'"
