From the opening plenary to the closing working group activity, booksellers were energized by Winter Institute 7’s many opportunities to learn and network. Publishers, too, found inspiration, knowledge, and invaluable connections.

Representatives of Google will take part in next month’s Winter Institute at two sessions on Google Analytics and at the Ask ABA Table at the Consultation Station, all on Thursday, January 19.

Registration is now open for ABA’s Seventh Annual Winter Institute. Wi7, sponsored by the Ingram Content Group, will be held from Wednesday, January 18, through Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

Next month’s NEIBA, PNBA, and GLIBA trade shows will provide booksellers with a full range of educational programming, author events, and networking opportunities. Here’s a look at some of the regional highlights and ABA programming at the shows.

ABA will open registration for the Seventh Annual Winter Institute, sponsored by the Ingram Content Group, on Thursday afternoon, September 15. Wi7 will be held from Wednesday, January 18, through Friday, January 20, 2012, in New Orleans.

Booksellers who attended ABA’s inaugural IndieCommerce Institute have provided feedback that is instrumental in gauging the event’s success, as well as in shaping future plans.

ABA staff will be at the regional trade shows this fall to present educational programming and to meet with booksellers at the ABA booth on the trade show floor, where non-members can sign up for a Show Special: free trial ABA membership until January 31, 2012.

The IndieCommerce Institute, which debuted in Chicago yesterday, drew close to 70 booksellers who took part in a day of intensive work focused on building a better website and developing e-commerce.

There are distinct opportunities for start-ups in bookselling. Learn about them at the workshop retreat “Owning a Bookstore: The Business Essentials,” which will take place September 12 - 16 on Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida).

ABA is extending the registration deadline for the few slots left for the IndieCommerce Institute until Wednesday, July 20, or until the three educational tracks are filled, whichever comes first. Stores that are already signed up for the ICI may now register additional staff.

Attendance at the first IndieCommerce Institute will be capped, but there’s still time to register for one of the remaining spots at the one-day educational program, focusing on online commerce and related marketing, for booksellers at different levels of experience.

Registration for ABA’s inaugural IndieCommerce Institute, sponsored by the Ingram Content Group, continues until July 14 or until the program tracks are filled, whichever comes first.

On Wednesday, June 22, ABA opened registration for its inaugural IndieCommerce Institute, to be held on Wednesday, August 10, in Rosemont, Illinois, minutes from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.

As ABA begins formulating its educational programming for the coming year, member input is sought on possible topics for children’s booksellers.
