In celebration of the movie Curious George, opening in theaters nationwide on February 10, 2006, Houghton Mifflin and Book Sense have produced exclusive materials -- including a two-foot high yellow hat (for The Man with the Yellow Hat, of course) and a Curious George-wrapped disposable camera -- to help booksellers create, and capture, displays and special events. The materials are being sent in a special Yellow Box mailing to arrive in stores by December 9.

The mailing includes suggestions for promoting the official movie books from Houghton Mifflin, which have a nationwide laydown date of January 10, 2006, as well as other Curious George books, including The Journey That Saved Curious George: The True Wartime Escape of Margret and H.A. Rey. A press release template is also part of the mailing. Booksellers can go to www.curiousgeorge.com for more event ideas and materials. Click on "teacher/librarian resource center" and scroll down to the "Complete Curious George Party Kit."

Booksellers are being encouraged to use the camera to take photos of Curious George events and to return the camera to Book Sense to be entered into a random drawing for prizes, courtesy of Houghton Mifflin. Prizes include a complete Curious George library from Houghton Mifflin, a Fossil limited-edition Curious George women's watch, and a Curious George plush toy from Russ Berrie.

To enter to win prizes, booksellers should fill out the sticker enclosed in the Yellow Box, attach it to the disposable camera, and mail it by March 1, 2006, to Associate Book Sense Marketing Director Meg Smith at the American Booksellers Association, 200 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, NY 10591.

Winners will be notified by April 1, 2006, and ABA will return a digital set of photos to all store entrants. Houghton Mifflin will also receive a set and may use any of the photos for promotional and marketing purposes. (Submission of the camera constitutes an agreement to this. Booksellers should have customers sign an event attendance sheet and release form that is enclosed in the Yellow Box mailing.)
