January 21 Deadline for Post-Holiday Survey

The American Booksellers Association is urging member stores to complete the seventh annual post-holiday survey, which was sent in an e-mail from ABA CEO Oren Teicher on Monday, January 6. The deadline for completing the survey is midnight PST on Tuesday, January 21.

Booksellers with questions about the survey, and those who need the link, should send an e-mail to ABA Member Relationship Managers Nathan Halter and Catherine Cusick.

The results of the survey, which takes less than 10 minutes to complete and is completely confidential, will help the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) and the Advocates for Independent Business (AIB) to:

• Gauge how independent businesses are faring.
• Assess whether people are more aware and supportive of locally owned, independent businesses.
• Identify some of the main challenges and policy issues affecting independent businesses. 

Past surveys have provided unique and important data about the viability of independent businesses and the impact of the localism movement. Last year, more than 2,300 local businesses completed the survey and its findings were featured in dozens of national and local news stories across the country.
