Booksellers and publishers attending Winter Institute 11 in Denver, as well as their family and friends, are invited to sign up now for the Après Institute Ski Trip, a day of fun at Colorado’s Copper Mountain Resort on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.

Here, Nicole Magistro, owner of The Bookworm of Edwards in Edwards, Colorado, gives booksellers the scoop on the skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing opportunities at Copper Mountain; the local restaurants nearby; and ideas for non-skiers who want to visit the Rocky Mountains.

Dear friends of adventure and bookish travel,

The mountains are calling. And when you’ve gotten all the way to Denver for Winter Institute, you’ll kick yourself for ignoring the siren call of the Colorado high country. So sign up now for the Après Institute Ski Trip! I mean really, just check out these photos! They were snapped by Karen Berg, owner of Next Page Books and Nosh in Frisco, Colorado — mere minutes away from Copper Mountain.

“No better way to leave it all behind than leaving your own fresh tracks in powder,” said Berg. “Copper is in my backyard, and I can’t wait to show you how to ski like a local.”

Green, Blue, Black? All types of trails are available over 2,465 acres of champagne powder, plus high-speed chair lifts and amazing views of Summit County and beyond. With several indie booksellers playing host to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, visitors will receive a personalized take on enjoying the mountain lifestyle. Industry folks from The Bookworm of Edwards, Next Page Books, Edelweiss, and other Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association stores will help attendees get the most out of their day on the slopes. Publishers are also encouraged to attend.

Those who need to get snowy without doing the resort thing can enjoy tubing, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing right on Copper Mountain.

Not a skier?

If sipping champagne next to a roaring fire is your idea of enjoying the mountains, the trip offers close proximity to some great indie restaurants, including Butterhorn Bakery and Cafe, Vinny’s Euro American Restaurant, and Sugar Lips Mini Donuts.

Personally, I love Main Street in Frisco for big views and a great Colorado getaway that’s close to home (Edwards is just 40 miles due west). There are dozens of cute shops, amazing coffee and tea (at Next Page), and some of the best photo ops you can get. Plus, Summit County is a great deal. And this ski trip is no exception. For $130 per person, including transportation, you’ll have some amazing photos to share on your Instagram.

See you on the slopes!

Love,

Nicole

Reservations are open now to both booksellers and publishers. The fee for the trip is $130 per person and includes a lift ticket and round-trip bus transportation from Wi11’s host hotel, the Sheraton Denver Downtown, to the resort, 75 miles west of Denver. An equipment rental discount code will be provided prior to the trip. Meals are not included.

Winter Institute will be held from Saturday, January 23, through Tuesday, January 26.
