New Book Cash Checks to Appear in February

Book Cash, the nationwide promotional program coordinated by The Properties Group, has begun a new promotion offering select credit card holders in Visa's Gold Rewards program $5 Book Cash checks. The checks, which can be used for books as well as movie tickets and pizza, should begin appearing in stores in February. (Click here for sample coupon.)

All Book Cash checks provide a list of participating retailers including "Book Sense Stores" and "Independent Bookstores with Book Sense," with the Book Sense toll-free phone number and the BookSense.com address to help consumers find locations. All ABA member stores with Book Sense are automatically part of the program; no registration is required.

Booksellers should accept a Book Cash check as a personal check or a traveler's check and collect any other money due to complete the sale. The Book Cash check should then be deposited into the store's bank account. No part of the check can be redeemed by customers for cash. Store owners and managers are strongly encouraged to brief all frontline staff about the program to avoid confusion and insure a smooth consumer transaction. No check should be accepted more than two weeks after its expiration date of January 31, 2005. (For answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Book Cash, click here.)

Book Cash decals for display on a bookstore's front door or window may be requested from ABA Production Coordinator Linda Ford via e-mail at [email protected] or by calling (800) 637-0037, ext. 1276. It is also suggested that booksellers place signs in the store, particularly at the cash-wrap, noting "Book Cash Accepted Here."

Questions about the Book Cash promotion should be directed to ABA Marketing Director Jill Perlstein via e-mail at [email protected] or by calling (800) 637-0037, ext. 1283.
