Here from ABC Children’s Group Manager Gen de Botton is a special invitation to booksellers attending the seventh ABC Children’s Institute (Ci7) in Pittsburgh this June.

A big thank you and props to Angela Whited from Red Balloon Bookshop in St. Paul, Minnesota, for planting this idea in my head: In honor of Pittsburgh and its most famous advocate for children, the ABC Group will be closing Ci7 with a private viewing of Flashdance the Fred Rogers documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor.

“Last year, when the movie was first released, I heard about a public watch party for Won’t You Be My Neighbor that sounded delightful,” said Whited. “Everyone was invited to don their cardigans and sneakers and join their neighbors for a viewing of the documentary. What better way to celebrate a visit to Mr. Rogers’ ACTUAL neighborhood?!”

While we do not want to insist that you pack more than you need for Ci7, we are encouraging attendees to bring their most favorite, coziest cardigan and their comfiest sneakers so that we can capture the greatest photo of all time — Ci7 attendees in their Mr. Rogers sartorial finest. We hope that you’ll join us for the movie and some popcorn with my favorite people — children’s booksellers.

See you there!

The screening will be held in the Oakmont Ballroom at the Ci7 host hotel and will take place immediately following the closing keynote with Alyssa Milano on Friday, June 28.

The 2019 Children’s Institute will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh-Green Tree from June 26-28, 2019. Registration for the event is nearing capacity; register now and see the entire Ci7 program here.
