The Book Industry Charitable Foundation created the Indies with Impact grant program as a way to recognize, support, and strengthen the connections bookstores have with their neighbors.

The publisher has also created a new hashtag, #TheHandSellLive, for the 2019 campaign, which booksellers can use to tag their videos on Facebook and when reposting them to other social media platforms.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Capstone, Scholastic, and Workman are the latest publishers to offer special programs for indies after the news that wholesaler Baker & Taylor will no longer distribute to retailers.
