Booksellers at BEA are encouraged to join Stacy Mitchell, a nationally recognized expert on small business and healthy local economies, for an insightful plenary talk about the evolution of localism from primarily a consumer movement to one that also includes policy development and political change.

The April 6 edition of IndieCommunication features news of a guest speaker for the upcoming IndieCommerce Institute, a Google Analytics webinar, and an update on IndieCommerce Kobo pages and a new feature, Conditional Attributes.

ABA invites booksellers to Spring Forums on Friday, April 8, in Boulder, Colorado, and on Sunday, April 10, in San Francisco. Both programs will feature a discussion about industry issues and the education session “Indie Bookstores and the New Localism: What You Can Do.”

Through March 31, every Children’s Institute bookseller registration received from an ABC Children’s Group member store will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from the event’s keynote speakers. Stores can join the ABC Group now to have their membership retroactively applied to the drawing.

Three video clips featured in the ABA Booksellers Forum education session “Indie Bookstores and the New Localism: What You Can Do” are now available on the ABA YouTube channel.

Registration is open for the 2016 IndieCommerce Institute, to be held on Tuesday, May 10, at Chicago’s Drake Hotel, just prior to BEA. The full-day, interactive program offers separate tracks for intermediate and more experienced users.

ABA member booksellers can now register for Publicists Speed Dating at BEA 2016, as well as purchase tickets for the ABC and CBC’s Speed Dating Lunch With Children’s Authors and Tea With Children’s Authors and Illustrators.

The fourth ABC Children’s Institute will kick off in June with a children’s book-themed Backlist Book Swap; 16 new authors have been added to the Author Reception; and March 31 marks the deadline for scholarship applications. 

ABA is inviting members and non-members alike to its last three Booksellers Forums of the season: on Friday, April 8, in Boulder, Colorado; on Sunday, April 10, in San Francisco, California; and on Tuesday, April 19, in New York City.

At a Winter Institute education session presented by the ABC Children’s Group, a panel of booksellers and publishers offered tips for repurposing advance reading copies to generate sales while staying within publishers’ guidelines for sharing ARCs.
